In 2026, India To be Second Largest Solar Market Globally-NSEFI

Apr 13, 2026

NSEFI highlighted that India is poised to become the world’s second-largest solar market in 2026, reflecting the country’s rapid progress in renewable energy deployment and clean energy adoption. India achieved its fastest-ever addition of 50 GW of solar capacity in just 14 months, crossing the 150 GW milestone and strengthening its pathway towards the national target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. According to NSEFI, major growth drivers include Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE), Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar adoption, PM Surya Ghar, PM-KUSUM, and the expansion of domestic solar manufacturing supported by PLI schemes and ALMM policies. The achievement reinforces India’s position as a global clean energy leader while reflecting NSEFI’s continued commitment towards policy advocacy, industry collaboration, and accelerating the nation’s energy transition.
