NSEFI at Ghumnabharu Site

Shri Deepak Gupta IAS (Retd), Director General, NSEFI, and Ms Shubhashree Chakraborty, Associate Director, India Agrivoltaics Alliance (IAA), witnessed firsthand how Ghumnabharu, a remote village near the Nepal border, has transformed through a community-led agrivoltaics model implemented by Transform Rural India (TRI). Once dependent on costly diesel irrigation and limited by the absence of grid electricity, the village now benefits from a 45 kWp Agrivoltaics system supporting irrigation across 100 acres for over 140 smallholder families through 9 Water User Associations. The initiative has enabled affordable clean energy access, expansion into additional crop cycles, increased participation of women in community leadership, and improved rural livelihoods, demonstrating how decentralised renewable energy can create resilient models where land produces both food and energy sustainably.
