Scaling Distributed Renewables: A Policy and Finance Forum
At the “Scaling Distributed Renewables: A Policy and Finance Forum” organized by NSEFI - National Solar Energy Federation of India and Climate Policy Initiative - India, industry leaders, policymakers, financiers, and stakeholders came together to deliberate on the pathways required to accelerate India’s distributed renewable energy transition. The discussions reinforced that scaling Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) requires more than technology deployment — it demands a coordinated ecosystem approach integrating policy, financing, grid infrastructure, DISCOMs, and end-use demand. Across the two-day forum, participants emphasized that access to affordable and appropriate finance remains a key challenge, particularly for MSMEs and small users. The conversations highlighted the importance of blended finance, risk-sharing mechanisms, productive-use applications, and community-driven models in unlocking capital and building resilient, scalable, and inclusive clean energy systems that support long-term economic and social impact.
